Community Service Activities
Our ambulance crew participate in a number of community service activities, including:
Harbor House: Medical oversight of the Harbor House-sponsored Cardiac Rehabilitation senior exercise program, where twice a week our EMT performs blood pressure, respiratory, and heart rate checks, and one-to-one counseling as needed.
Flu shot clinics: Our EMT's have been critical to the MDI school flu clinics for the past 3 years. Volunteering many hours, our EMT's have inoculated hundreds of children annually, saving the schools and taxpayers thousands of dollars.
EMS support for local events: Our EMT's volunteer and provide medical support to area events, such as the MDI Marathon, bike & other road races, and Octoberfest.
EMT Alert Refrigerator Kit -- see video ------------------------>
Please help us help you by posting important medical information
with this kit - it's free!
School Programs: Our EMT's go to the schools and daycare center providing educational and fun "show & tell" of emergency services activities, including ambulance orientation, how & why to call 9-1-1, and poison prevention.
Regional emergency response: Our EMS supervisors volunteer time to participate with other emergency response agencies in regional committees such as Disaster Response, Pan-Flu Epidemic, and Regional EMS governing boards.
House-number sign program:
We also developed and manage a residential sign program providing residents with low-cost, highly visible house-number signs, enabling emergency responders (fire, police, and medical) to locate residents quickly in emergencies. Applications for house-number signs are available here or at the Southwest Harbor and Tremont Town Offices.
